Fiverr Project Status Update

An Artistic Cartoon for a Fiverr

Alright, I wanted to check back in with an update on Fiverr.com. I’ve run a few projects on there and each of them with success. Now, nothing I was doing was timely, so even though two projects delivered late, it did not impact the quality of the work or the experience.

I have a client that I ran two directory submission projects for on Fiverr. Directory submissions have decreased in value over time, but it is still an important basic overall in your site promotion strategy. This is a classic case of understanding something of marginal value, a time drain that just isn’t worth my (or the client’s time) to perform and certainly worth a Grande Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks.

I ran another project just as a hoot for a friend that took your photo and made it into a celebrity cover shot (see inset). The project was delivered on time and was exactly as I expected. It might be the funniest and best five bucks I’ve spent online.

The last project was a twitter background. I submitted some photos and a small brief about colors, tagline, etc. While the background isn’t amazing, it certainly is a cost-effective way to spruce up your online appearance. And, again, for five bucks, it is hard to argue with the success there.

I think Fiverr will be a success, but you’ll have to use it judiciously. I can see people getting hooked on it and spending a lot of “only $5 buck” transactions without a whole lot to show. But I can see it having real value for one-off projects or projects with unique skill sets you may not need again.

While I’m sure I will use it again and I would have no problem recommending it, the fact that you can’t build an ongoing relationship with these providers is a bit of a turnoff to me personally.
