When it comes to content, you have to add value to the supply chain: introduce new ideas, have a new perspective, synthesize various sources into new ways of thinking. Today, Google announced that it is stepping up efforts to fight spam. I’m delighted that Google has made this a priority. It is difficult enough to fight your “competitors” in the marketplace, but when Spam results are floating to the top as a result of these ridiculous content farms it is infuriating.
I also thought I would mention that Google Chrome has a pretty sweet extension to fight spam. It allows you to report Spam results directly to Google in a pretty slick interface. If you’re using Chrome, please let us know how it works for you. Community policing is a great opportunity – and just further justification why social media adds such insight to these situations.
Takeaway point: Play the game as it needs to be played, but keep your eye on the prize. Great, unique, compelling and valuable content will always win the day.
