2012 Goals: Engage. Invest. Enrich.

I recently read an article about using three words to help stay focused. I wish I could find the article, but I think it was Chris Brogan who discussed the thought of 2012 goals in this manner. I appreciated its simplicity. As an entrepreneur, I can become overwhelmed with ideas and work, so staying focused is a necessity. I hope that the lessons I learned from previous years translate into a more developed perspective as life’s train chugs forward. With a baby girl on the way, I’m quite certain that my life and my lifestyle will experience a cataclysmic shift. Now, it is more important than ever to focus.

But, on what? After careful consideration, I’ve come up with mine. I trust that they form a global framework that will allow me to create a successful environment to thrive.

My three words: Engage. Invest. Enrich.

Engage

I want to be engaged in the “right” business and personal projects. My time and energy are both premium products and I need to stay focused on the “right” opportunities that matter most.

Invest

Invest my time, energy and resources in family, friends and associates to create a positive cycle of returns. These are people who are focused on ideas, not things. And, as with any investment, sometimes you have to take a hard look at your portfolio to re-balance and sell stocks at a loss to capitalize on others who will generate better, more fulfilling results.

Enrich

Enrich my life with pursuits with those people who I’ve engaged with and invested in that bring long-term joy to my world and the world of those around me: ideas, great conversations, exercise, service to the community and reading.

So, 2011: Fare thee well. Here comes 2012. And, I’m ready.
