The 5 Rs of Search Engine Marketing with Bryan Eisenberg [WilsonWeb]

I’ve always loved Bryan Eisenberg since I read his book Waiting for Your Cat to Bark?. He followed that one up with Always Be Testing, which explains the importance and mindset to always be testing and tinkering with your website. Both are awesome reads and he’s always been a rock star in my book.

During this interview with Ralph Wilson, Bryan explains the 5 Rs that every online marketer should consider during the website planning phase. As a whole, this is a mindset more than anything and always ties back into the most important notion we espouse: how do I provide value to my consumer?

The 5 Rs according to Bryan: Relevant, Reputation, Remarkable, Readability, Reach.

Why Remarkable is most important

Obviously, all of the R’s are important and it’s a really nice framework to help online marketers. But I would stress remarkable content as the most important – and the hardest aspect to achieve. As time-starved website owners, sometimes we sacrifice remarkable quality articles for “recency” of content. As time passes, you think, “I just need to publish a darn article.” And, you’re right. But publishing poor quality content in your or your brand’s name is certain to damage your reputation compared to the minuscule upside of publishing “just to publish.” In short, the risk/reward proposition simply isn’t there.

Now, by default, remarkable content will be relevant. You have to know what’s relevant to your audience to create remarkable ideas. Your reputation will increase as a thought leader in your space for providing something new, exciting or interesting. And, when people start noticing the reach will increase – no matter how large or small your niche. Readability, well, that is why website designers and editors are employed to help.

How will you create remarkable content today?
